From: Jeri Floyd and Susan Robinson

Since 2005, FCC-SoCal has been coordinating a mentorship program with the China Care Bruins, a student-run group at UCLA. Last year, more than 50 FCC children (ages 6 to 15) were paired with college student “Big Buddies.” They participated in monthly Sunday afternoon get-togethers on the UCLA campus throughout the academic year. (During that same time, FCC coordinated Parent Roundtables featuring discussion on a variety of adoptive family topics.)  In 2009, China Care Bruins was selected from more than 40 chapters to receive the inaugural Outstanding Community Service Award from the national China Care foundation for this mentorship program.

Visit the China Care Bruins website for more information.

We are delighted to announce that there are a few additional openings in the Buddy Program for the 2009-2010 academic year (October 2009 through May 2010). This includes the Little Buddies group (age 6 and older, up through 5th grade) and the new Youth Buddies group, for kids currently in 6th grade/Middle School and above. The Little and Youth Buddy Programs will run simultaneously on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 pm on the UCLA campus. Meeting dates are provided in the "Reg Cover Note" pdf (see link below). Parents will check their kids in at one location, and then the two groups will meet in separate locations.  (Parents must also check their children out at locations TBA.) See the FAQ pdf below for info on a Teen program.

The Application is provided below and is due on or before Sunday, October 4, 2023 – yes, a very quick turnaround! UCLA’s fall quarter started last week. We always have to hit the ground running once UCLA goes back into session and we are able to finalize the registration materials with the student leaders.

Before emailing us with questions, please read the accompanying materials and Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the program and its eligibility requirements, financial and time commitment and expectations.

Applications will be considered in the order received. We will email you about your status after the application deadline.   Applicants should save the date of Sunday, October 11, 2-5 pm, which is the date of the first meeting. New Little/Youth Buddies will receive additional program information.
